Welcome to CleanCanton.com! My name is Avery, and this website was created as an initiative to educate others, get people outdoors, provide opportunities for service hours and reduce the amount of waste in our community and parks. We wanted to pull people together in a way that felt informative, gratifying and most of all, fun!
It’s so easy to get so wrapped up in our lives, deadlines, clubs, homework and social life….everything else feels like more of a priority than making time to volunteer. Now that senior year is finally here, life is feeling more and more “real”. Senior year has also made me realize that I have to make time for things that are important to me, like appreciating the outdoors and doing my part to help keep these parks as clean as I can for everyone who uses them.
When I see a white styrofoam cup or an empty water bottle in a field of green grass, that bothers me. However, I can’t change the way our plastic wrapped society functions or the amount and bio-degradability of plastic. I can’t come up with a brand new way to process waste, or an ingenious invention to reduce our carbon footprint, at least not right now.
What I can try to do, is drive awareness through some basic education and fun group initiatives that benefit us all.
